Irene Curulli
Dr. Irene Curulli is an Associate Professor of Practice at Virginia Tech. She has over twenty years of practical experience in architecture and landscape architecture. Her Amsterdam-based office engaged in many professional collaborations resulting in a rich portfolio of winning international competitions and built projects.
As an educator and scholar, her research interest lies at the intersection of architecture and landscape architecture, focusing on the transformation of dismissed industrial landscapes. Irene is currently researching post-industrial ‘Water Wise Landscapes’ (WWL), where heritage, water, and climate change come together.
Irene believes in the synergetic and integrative exchange across disciplines and has coordinated multidisciplinary ERASMUS+ projects (funded by the European Commission) and international workshops where she continuously experiments with the relationship between research and design, profession, and education.
Irene was granted the ‘Lawrence Halprin fellowship’ by Cornell University (USA) and has taught at the University of Oregon (USA), the Eindhoven University of Technology, (NL), and at the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria (IT).
She is the author of a number of books and articles in scientific publications and proceeding books.
