Congratulations to senior Interior Design Student, Kelsey Muir, on being a finalist in the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Student Portfolio Competition. The competition is sponsored by Benjamin Moore and generates the best collection of student design projects in the nation. Winners and Finalists are selected based on conceptual thought, content and quality of submitted work, the student's ability to articulate their process, and the student's record of achievement. Judging includes two rounds online and one round of finalist interviews.

There were over 230 submissions this year and the jury selected 12 finalists and five winners. Finalists presented their work in-person to the jury at the Benjamin Moore Showroom in New York City the day before SCALE 2019 to be evaluated during the final round of the competition, and to receive feedback, advice, and mentorship.

Kelsey says it was an honor to be selected as a finalist for the ASID Student Portfolio competition and to represent Virginia Tech's Interior Design program amongst so many other talented students from design schools across the country. The entire process was such a unique opportunity, Kelsey found, which not only allowed her to share her work with some of the industry's top design professionals, but ultimately enabled her to make new connections and friendships in the New York City area. Kelsey says attending SCALE was truly an invaluable experience and she is extremely grateful for all the support from her friends, family, and professors who have helped her get to this point.

After graduation, Kelsey is moving to New York to work as an Interior Designer for WeWork. She is sad to leave Blacksburg, but excited to begin her career in the design industry!
