History, theory, and field methods of historic preservation in the United States such as building and site surveys, historic structures reports, and National Register Nominations; history and theory of European preservation; fundamental concepts and the role of preservation in allied disciplines; preservation in urban, town, neighborhood, and rural contexts; common preservation strategies and initiatives; understanding of community-based preservation efforts; focus on residential properties. ITDS 5134: Preservation of Historic Interiors

Catalogue Description

Aspects of historic preservation as it relates to historic interiors, including options and approaches to historic interiors, sources for researching structures, codes and standards for adaptive use as they apply to the design of historic interiors, barrier-free design and historic structures, appropriate use of components of an historic interior, such as wall coverings, lighting, and flooring materials.

ITDS 5135: Historic Preservation Field Documentation Methods 

Catalogue Description

Documentation of historic buildings. Knowledge of HABS (Historic American Building Survey) measuring processes and photographic documentation to meet National Register requirements. Large format photography and measured drawings. Archival research including tax records and historic photographs. Building archeology techniques.
